About Mrs. Sherman:
Laura Sherman has been playing piano since she was 5 years old. Her father was a professor at U.C. Berkeley and he taught her to play the piano. She received a B.A. in Music from U.C. Santa Cruz and also holds a Masters in Recreation Therapy and a Teaching Credential in Music. She started teaching music in Santa Cruz in the late 70's both in the elementary schools and private piano lessons. Since then she has been teaching children and adults all around the Bay Area. She has taught many kinds of classes including piano, chorus, singing and percussion, movement and Orff classes which combine all of the above, At the present she specializes in teaching young children from pre-school through 3rd grade. She also is the Orff teacher at Kaiser Elementary School in Oakland, CA.

Philosophy:
Laura started the business Music-Go-Round in 2004 to reach out to young children and their families and offer her services. She believes that all children are musical. Children learn in a playful, yet intimate environment. She includes songs from the American culture and folk music from around the world. Children learn to sing, dance, play with scarves, play musical games develop their musical abilities and have lots of fun in her classes.

Hobbies and Interests:
Laura also enjoys playing jazz piano and performs occasionally in restaurants, clubs and for private parties. She plays with a Quintet called HighWater Pearl Jazz as well as with smaller groups of a trio or duo when the opportunity arises.
