Principal’s Message – December 18th, 2018

Happy Holidays Kaiser Elementary Families!
There is so much excitement going on at Kaiser that it is impossible to capture it all in one column. So this time around, I am going to focus just on our 4th and 5th grades.

Ms. Eckley’s students have been studying colleges and universities, and each student has prepared a PowerPoint presentation to share with their peers. Ms. Thomas’ class hosted a student-led talent show last week. And Mr. Neat has been busy casting and directing the annual 5th grade play. All kids have been engaging in “complex texts” that continue to push their reading, writing, and thinking skills. And, when we return from the break, all will begin a new science unit with an updated and highly engaging curriculum that our staff has been studying in our professional development. And of course, this week is the 4th and 5th grade instrumental music performance and 5th grade play!

We have also had rich conversations about being upstanders. At each grade level, kids learn important skills about resolving conflicts, making good choices, and being safe, mindful and responsible. This is especially important for our 5th graders, who we expect to be positive leaders of our school and who we want to be prepared both academically and socially for middle school. Last week all 4th an 5th graders participated in Restorative Justice Circles on the theme of being an upstander. I hope your family will continue these conversations at home. This week, and each week in January, students in these grades can nominate an “upstander of the week”. I’ll be highlighting a few of these in future issues of the Pink Panther.

I want to wish each of your families a very joyous and peaceful break! See you next year!
