It is easy to take for granted what we experience every day, however the Kaiser community certainly does not take our teachers for granted! Over the past two weeks this appreciation has been especially rich. Thank you to all the families who have brought in food in honor of Teacher Appreciation! Thanks, also, for the kind notes, emails, and words in passing that remind Kaiser teachers we are appreciated.
Further appreciation goes out to the students, families, and staff who participated in this year’s walk-a-thon. It was another huge success. (I’m personally bummed that a stomach bug had me in bed instead of on the upper field Saturday morning. Thanks to those who shared photos and stories so I could experience it vicariously.)
As we are in our final weeks of school, I encourage you to firm up your plans for summer learning. OUSD unfortunately only has enough slots in it’s summer school for two Kaiser students in each grade level. However, there are other opportunities out there. Kaiser will play host to a coding camp as well as a drama program. Oakland Parks have numerous programs, and a representative from Oakland Public Library will be on campus June 5 to share information about their summer reading programs. Please check in with your teachers about recommended reading for your child, as a daily routine of summer reading is proven to help reduce “the summer slide.”
